Residents for Responsible Government was formed in 2002 in response to Town of Porter Board members approving a motion to rezone more Town of Porter land for the commercial landfilling of PCBs and hazardous wastes imported from all over the U.S., Puerto Rico, and Canada. The existing Town of Porter Board approved CWM's expansion despite public protest and the urging of the Town Supervisor to table the motion until all parties could examine it.
Currently, the Town of Porter has undertaken a process to revise its Zoning regulations to conform to its Master Plan. However, RRG is concerned that the Town will not preserve the Master Plan in proposing new Zoning regulation. We urge residents to watch closely in 2008 for even subtle changes in Zoning that would make it easier for CWM to expand operations in the Town of Porter.
